Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Programming

We offer morning and evening intensive outpatient programs for adults age 18 and older at our facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Additionally, we provide an intensive outpatient program for adolescents ages 13-17. Clients who are 18 and still in high school take part in the adolescent IOP. Clients can step down to our IOPs from our inpatient programming, or they can participate in our outpatient programming without completing a higher level of care at Keystone.

The following outlines important details about our morning and evening adult IOPs:

  • The typical length of stay in the adult morning and evening intensive outpatient programs is six to eight weeks, though each person’s length of stay will vary depending on their progress and needs.
  • In our intensive outpatient programs at Keystone, we provide services and therapies for adults who have gambling disorder, addictions, and co-occurring mental health concerns.
  • Our intensive outpatient programming is typically offered four days a week for three hours each day.
  • Clients can add optional weekly individual therapy sessions to the existing programming if they need them.
  • Care in these programs is based on the philosophies of the 12-Step program. We encourage clients to complete Steps 1-5 prior to working on Steps 6-12.

In our adolescent intensive outpatient program, we provide age-specific care for youths who are struggling with addictions and compulsive gambling. Features of our adolescent IOP include:

  • Developmentally appropriate care: In our adolescent IOP, we provide care that addresses the specific developmental, emotional, and social needs of adolescents.
  • Peer support: In group therapy sessions, adolescents have the chance to meet other young people who may have had similar experiences. In these sessions, they can talk about their feelings and get feedback from each other.
  • Family involvement opportunities: Our clients and their families can receive family counseling from one of our counselors. These sessions are offered as needed and cover topics like communication skills, creating boundaries, and family dynamics.
  • Continuing care plans: Each adolescent client who participates in our IOP receives a continuing care plan that provides suggestions for further care once they have left our intensive outpatient program. This plan may include referrals for support groups and outpatient services in their community.

An adolescent typically participates in our IOP for six to eight weeks, though the actual length of their stay is based on their progress and needs.

In addition to intensive outpatient programming, Keystone is pleased to offer a number of other outpatient services at our Sioux Falls location, including:

Thank you Keystone!  You gave me the tools for a great life through the tools, including the 12 steps and my renewed Spirituality Program... Last Friday I received my 34 year chip. It was an awesome feeling to share that with all the people I love and have met along the way through my journey of recovery.
