Recovery Takes Flight, 2010

Date & Time: Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 12:00 noon local time
Location: Over 100 CRC Health Group facilities across the U.S.
CRC Event: CRC Health Group’s 3rd annual “Recovery Takes Flight” event will feature a wave of balloons from East to West as staff and clients alike take part in a nationwide biodegradable balloon release to celebrate recovery.
This year’s headquarters will be Wilmington Treatment Center located in Wilmington, North Carolina. The event will feature CRC CEO Dr. Barry Karlin and 4-Star General Barry McCaffrey.
National Event: CRC’s events are part of the national government’s month-long observance of Recovery Month held each September. According to the official Recovery Month website, the nearly 1,000 nationwide events involving thousands of people are intended to “highlight the societal benefits of substance abuse treatment, laud the contributions of treatment providers and promote the message that recovery from substance abuse in all its forms is possible. The observance also encourages citizens to take action to help expand and improve the availability of effective substance abuse treatment for those in need.”
National Recovery Month is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and its Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT). This year marks the 21st national observance. More information can be found at www.recoverymonth.gov.
National Theme: Join the Voices for Recovery… Now More Than Ever.
Need for Awareness: More than 23.1 million people in the United States have been classified with substance use disorders in the past year. Treatment and other recovery support programs are as effective as treatment for other chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease – yet nationally, only 10 percent of Americans who need treatment for substance use disorders actually receive it, according to the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
