Congratulations, Carol! Keystone Executive Director Enters South Dakota Hall of Fame

By Hugh C. McBride

Keystone Treatment Center is proud to announce that our executive director, Carol Regier, is now a member of the South Dakota Hall of Fame.

Thirty-six years after she accepted a "temporary" staff nurse position with Keystone -- and 18 years (and counting) since she was named the program's executive director -- Carol remains a leading figure in the addiction recovery field, and a living example of the power of faith, dedication and commitment.

As a South Dakota Hall of Famer, Carol is part of an impressive group of our state's greatest leaders and most recognized citizens (a group that includes noted broadcast journalist Tom Brokaw, former Sen. Tom Daschle, acclaimed artist Terry Redlin and Native American leaders Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse).

This isn't the first time that Carol has been honored for personal and professional excellence. For example, in 1998 she received the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Chemical Dependency Counselors in South Dakota, and in 2001 the Business and Professional Women/USA gave her their "Women of Achievement" Award.

But anyone who knows Carol also knows that her contributions to her community -- and her value to those she serves -- couldn't begin to be captured by any one award certificate or during any testimonial dinner.

In addition to being a passionate advocate for individuals and families who are struggling with substance abuse, chemical dependency, compulsive behaviors and dual diagnoses, Carol is also an inspiration to those of us who have the privilege of working with her on a daily basis.

From the day that Keystone Treatment Center first opened its doors, Carol has been an integral part of our effort to provide the best possible care to the men, women, young people and families who choose to heal here. And throughout her three-plus decades of service, she has remained steadfast in her faith, her commitment to her clients and her dedication to the wonderful team that she has played such an important role in creating and leading.

We commend the South Dakota Hall of Fame for making such a worthy selection, we congratulate Carol on her most recent honor and we thank her for her continued efforts on behalf of Keystone Treatment Center and those we are here to serve.

Great job, Carol!
