Location: Home > KeySolutions EAP > E-Zine Archive > Stop Conflict Before It StartsStop Conflict Before It StartsTo communicate with people in a way they prefer, and help reduce conflict, consider using the Social Style of Behavior model. It suggests ways to handle these four types: Analyticals. They are technical, organized and less social than others. How to handle: Let analytical employees work on their own. Don't expect them to socialize with others at work. Give analytical bosses facts to back up conclusions or suggestions. They frown upon decisions based on feelings or intuitions. Amiables. They are supportive, responsive and avoid conflict at all costs. How to handle: Offer amiable employees support for their feelings and abilities. Cooperate with amiable bosses to accomplish goals. Ask for the specifics of projects and communicate progress often. Drivers. They have a "take charge" attitude, need to feel in control, and are action- and results-oriented. How to handle: give driver employees options to choose from to complete a task. Supply driver bosses with brief and efficient reports about the status of projects and new developments. Expressives. They enjoy relating to others, are often considered emotional or impulsive, and are turned off by details. How to handle: Encourage expressive employees to plan and follow through on projects. Be enthusiastic about ideas offered by expressive bosses. When you disagree with their ideas, don't argue, but do offer alternatives. |
