Holiday Stress

The holiday season is fast approaching and along with it comes the additional stress that this joyous season brings. You may be one of the millions of people who await the holiday season with a mixture of anticipation and dread. Here are some ways to avoid getting wrapped up in the stress of the holidays of the season's blues.

Holiday decorating, gift buying and entertaining added to an already hectic schedule is asking for exhaustion and disappointment. PACE YOURSELF!

Allow you and your family to decide beforehand how to spend time and money during the holidays. Set realistic expectations and realize you may have to compromise.

Prioritize holiday activities and drop the ones you can do without.

Purchasing everything on your family's Christmas "wish list" is unrealistic and won't win love and respect. A gift of time or self is more valued than any purchased item.

You won't be disappointed if you don't expect the perfect gift, the perfect party, or the perfect holiday.

Holidays stir up memories of people and places long distant. Approach this with a positive attitude.

Over eating. over drinking and over indulgence is typical during this time. Take care of yourself. Get plenty of rest and stay away from too much of any one thing.

Loneliness can be a major problems during the holidays. Remember someone with a phone call, card or visit. It will make them feel special and keep you from feeling lonely.

If you don't' feel jolly, don't punish yourself for it! The holiday season may arrive at a time when your life is not on an even keel. Tackle your personal problems in a patient, positive way.

Don't isolate yourself. Talking to someone about your feelings can help you feel better.

Any problems currently going on will intensify under the stress of the season. Problem solve now.

Your relatives may bring more than packages when they visit. Anticipate potential problem areas and prepare accordingly.

Spiritual values should be renewed during this holiday season.
